In the early ’90s, pop art was popular. Andy Warhol’s group of daily consumer goods, represented by the famous Campbell Soup cans, entered the field of Chinese artists with pictorial images of celebrity portraits. The inner aesthetics and ideological content of Pop Art represented by Warhol deeply influenced the trend of “Symbolization” of contemporary Chinese art. The purpose of this article is to discuss and analyze the phenomenon of a large number of “symbolic” and “imagery” artwork in contemporary painting, and to consider the original meaning and function of “symbolic”.
