The body as a cultural symbol has a wealth of meaning. In the novel Heart of Darkness, Conrad created a distinctive body image. These bodies are inextricably linked to Western colonialism. Whether describing the body of others who were vilified and disciplined by Western colonialists, or the body of the Western colonizers themselves vulnerable to difficulties, Conrad used his cold brush strokes to show the reader the gloomy and dismal humanity one side. Through his body writing, he not only accused the inhuman crimes of Western colonialism, but also undermined the subtle dehumanization of human nature by torturing the modern civilization.
