喜玛拉雅山麓有11个大型水库(它们的容积超过1km~3或坝高为100m以上);其中,9个水库已蓄满水,仅有2个水库适合架设仪器监测地震,分析监测数据表明,这9个水库没出现水库诱发地震的现象。目前,专家们一致认为喜玛拉雅山麓挤压构造发育,一般不会发生水库诱发地震。因此,一些正断层和滑移断层斜交于和平行于喜玛拉雅山走向的地方可能会发生诱发地震。这些水库都位于曾经发生过震级7级以上的地震的多震区。因此,一般来讲,地震事件对本地区水库的威胁远大于水库诱发地震。

These reservoirs are located in a multi-earthquake zone where an earthquake of magnitude 7 or above has occurred. Therefore, in general, the threat of the earthquake event to the reservoirs in the area is far greater than that caused by the reservoir.
