先秦百家中,孔子墨子对于天命论有着不同的阐释和论断,主要表现在对于天与命运关系的理解不同,因而也导致了人们在不同理解下对待命运方式的不同;孔子之天是先天的,墨子之天是后天的;孔子的“天命”带来后天命运的不可变性,而墨子的“非命”则看到了人在后天的主观能动性。儒墨两家都以显学并称于世,以天为本,推崇天的权威,在对天的态度上,都积极祭天,但在天命论上明显的分歧导致儒墨两家迥异悬殊的历史
