王永德,专业是中国话剧史,任中央戏剧学院院长之前是该院的党委书记。徐晓钟以其在导演专业方面的精湛水平以及在戏剧界的崇高威望,连续多年在中央戏剧学院任院长。而王永德连续四届任党委书记与之合作。1999年初,徐晓钟由于年龄原因退了下来,王永德就任院长,上任伊始,在新一届院领导班子中,他提出了在目前国家经济体制由计划经济转为市场经济的情况下,中央戏剧学院也不能固守原有的办院方向,一定要寻求新的发展。
