Morey Machinery Inc. of the United States recently introduced the PERA Cutfast process, which proves that when cutting metals with higher hardness and toughness, cutting times can be reduced by more than 40% compared to normal turning operations, and material removal rates of up to 300% have been reported. This method was developed by the Institute of Production Technology Research (PERA) and is being used in many plants in Europe, Africa and the Far East. It is designed for use on single-edged tools such as heavy duty lathes (Figure 1), boring and milling machines, planers and slot machines.
