牙髓对疼痛刺激十分敏感。作者对30名健康人进行了针刺后牙齿止痛效果的观察。结果表明,所有被测试的牙齿针刺后都提高了知觉阈值。针刺十分钟后就可以明显的看到效果,实验是在20～25岁健康的医科或牙科专业学生中进行的。实验前,所有的牙齿都做了彻底地临床及 X 线检查。只对完整的牙齿与少数已修复的牙齿进行此项实验。选择上腭两侧的一个臼齿、一个前磨齿和一个切齿。先在受试者合谷穴针刺,用恒定电流刺激器(Bofors 牙髓测验器),分别在针刺前和电针刺激10、20、30分钟后进行测定。
