二苯胍(亚胺基氨基二苯甲烷)属于碱性有机染料,溶解在各种有机溶剂中。在盐酸溶液中形成二苯胍的盐酸盐:能与很多金属的硫氰化络阴离子生成难溶于水的三元化合物,能被三氯甲烷,二氯乙烷等非极性的有机溶剂萃取。当金属的络阴离子有颜色时,在有机相中将使颜色增深,可以拟定不同元素的萃取光度法;若金属的络阴离子无颜色时,有机相也不呈颜色,可实现元素的分离。因此,二苯胍在萃取光度法和元素的分离方法中已广泛的被采用。在硫氰酸盐存在下,锌在酸性介质中以无色的硫氰酸锌络阴离子的状态存在,与二苯胍互相作用
