黄河水利委员会灌溉查勘队今年的查勘任务是要在黄河南岸郑州、中牟一带约五百平方公里的地区内,按照初步设计的要求进行灌溉查勘。工作项目包括:水文地质、土壤的勘探测验工作和气象资料、农业技术、经济资料的搜集研究工作,并建立地下水位长期觀测站,研究地下水的年变化规律。由于这是一项新的工作,需要按照苏联先进农业灌溉技术的要求来进行,全队队员经验缺乏,专业知识不足,因而在出发之前,经过一个月的学习,打下了理论基础,于五月初在郑州附近的庙庄选择三十六平方公里的地区
