The successful use of laser-guided weapons in the Gulf War has led to the worldwide popularity of laser-guided weapons, causing the U.S. Air Force to continually conduct research on tactical fixed-wing laser warnings Earlier this year, the Laser Sensor Technology Laboratory (Part of Wright’s Laboratory Avionics Systems Council) issued a request for research and development to demonstrate the laser wavelength discrimination technology required for the Laser Alert Receiver (LWR) on tactical fixed-wing aircraft. The purpose is to “demonstrate the spectral resolution techniques that are sufficient to identify the laser source clearly for situational awareness and direct the appropriate countermeasures with the smallest possible aperture.” The proposal also places particular emphasis on pulsed laser systems. Several other technical demonstrations Work is under way and many of the Air Force’s offices have different functions in terms of laser warnings.Wright’s Lab has two teams specializing in LWR: The Laser Sensor Technology Laboratory focuses on the application of laser warning systems Basic technology; the other is a pilot group whose mission is to apply these technologies and further their research The LWR program currently underway at the Laser Sensor Technology Laboratory includes the recently announced project and a continuous wave identification system.Other programs include a beam-on probing system and an advanced laser alert receiving system, and its successor, the Small Form Factor Advanced The laser warning system was completed about a year ago and another plan is studying how the laser affects the driver’s physiological response.
