2008年12月14日,嘉绍大桥在以世界三大强潮闻名的钱塘江上开工建设。2013年7月19日零时,世界上最长最宽的多塔斜拉桥嘉绍跨江大桥将正式通车,是继杭州湾跨海大桥之后第二座跨杭州湾大桥,嘉绍大桥北起嘉兴海宁,南接绍兴上虞,桥长10公里,8车道,设计速度为100公里/小时。嘉绍大桥建成通车后,绍兴到上海的车程将由现在的3小时缩短为1.5个小时。
