Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) has been widely used in the determination of trace rare earth elements in ores, steel, high-purity rare earths and seawater [1-3]. However, so far, there are few reports on the application of this analytical technique for the determination of trace amounts of rare earth elements in biological samples. In order to study the enrichment and distribution of rare earth elements in animals, this paper presents a method for the simultaneous determination of trace rare earth elements La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and Y in the rat viscera.
