A mathematical model to determine the chordal slot position is proposed for the chordal slot cascade of a highly loaded axial compressor. The method for calculating the chordwise flow field is given as a basis for analyzing the aerodynamic performance of this cascade. The wind tunnel blowing test shows the correctness of the model and the improvement of the aerodynamic performance of the axial compressor by the chordwise gap cascades
