With collaborative efforts of scientists of the Institute of Modern Physics(IMP),Chinese Academy Sciences and hospitals in Gansu,initial clinic trial on cancer therapy with heavy ion has been successfully carried out in China. In Nov.2006,the first four patients with shallow-seated tumors were treated with carbon ion beams in the Shallow-Seated Tumor Therapy Terminal at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou(HIRFL), IMP,in collaboration with the General Hospital of Lanzhou Command in Lanzhou,Gansu.
