在新的一年快要到来的时候,总免不了要回顾一下即将过去的一年的工作,但结果往往是不满意的,因计划从来没有如愿地完成过。特别是在“四人帮”倒台了以后,工作多起来,社会活动也多起来,往往一件未了,另一件又压上来了。忙,是一件好事,只是个人的计划有时不免要被打乱。但“新年计划”或“设想”还得有一个吧。我明年的计划是想再写一部长篇小说,名字暂定为《远程》。它是我一九四七年在英国用英文出版的长篇小说《山村》(已译成中文在国内三年前出版)的第三部——第二部《旷野》已于今年完成,正在排印中。事隔了三十七、八年,为什么现在忽然要写两个续篇呢?说来话长。《山村》写的是一九二六——一
As the new year is approaching, there is always a need to review the work of the coming year, but the result is often unsatisfactory because the plan has never been fulfilled.
