2003年,解放日报报业集团坚持科学发展观,着眼于全面、协调、可持续发展,注重社会效益与经济效益的统一,注重协调事业发展的各种关系,注重提升可持续发展能力,无论是宣传业务还是经营业务都取得新成绩。新闻报道多次受到中宣部和上海市委领导的表扬,其中《解放日报》受到中宣部《新闻阅评》通报表扬20次,受上海市委主要领导表扬15次。集团经济运行正常,呈现良好发展势头,其中集团利润增长幅度喜人, 2003年集团利润2.1亿元,比去年同期增加4300万元,增长25.72%,是1999年利润的2倍,四年翻了一番。2003年是不平凡的一年,也是集团抓住机遇、寻求发展的一年,是抓住重点、实现发展的一年。
