中国古代商人被看成是“四民之末”而倍受岐视，但事实上商人最初是由士而来，且在明清时期又有大量文士的加入。所以，在古代商业营销观念中，以天时地利人和占了主导地位，传统的孔孟之道的某些原则被应用入了商业活动。使中国古代商人营销思想具有合理内涵，成为中华民族优良传统的一个方面。
Ancient Chinese merchants were regarded as “the end of the four civilizations.” However, the merchants were actually originated from scholars and there were a large number of scribes in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Therefore, in the ancient concept of commercial marketing, the principle of using time and place as well as the dominant and traditional Confucius and Mencius was applied to commercial activities. It has become an aspect of the fine tradition of the Chinese nation to make the marketing ideas of ancient Chinese merchants have a reasonable meaning.
