The expression product of proto-oncogene c-fos The Fos protein is a phosphoprotein in the nucleus that binds to DNA to form a DNA-binding protein complex. A variety of stimuli are now known to cause the expression of c-fos genes and Fos proteins within the relevant nucleus of the central nervous system. Many researchers believe that Fos protein may serve as a “third messenger” molecule in the nucleus, which links extracellular stimuli with long-term changes in cell function by regulating the expression of specific target genes. In this study, the effects of electroacupuncture on the expression of c-fos proto-oncogene were studied by northern blot hybridization and immunocytochemistry (ICC).
