INTRODUCTION. One major class of naturally occuring iron complexing agents are the dihydroxamic acids which help to carry iron through metabolic channels and insert it into porphyrins and other iron-containing enzymes and proteins. In our laboratory, malonohydroxamic acid was prepared and subjected to X-ray structural determination.
