2006年11月22日,“沈北新区”经国务院批复正式挂牌成立,成为继上海浦东、天津滨海、郑州郑东之后的中国第四个经济新区。四大新区的开发无疑是国家区域战略大布局上最重要的四个棋子。浦东成为以上海所领导的长江三角洲地区中经济最发达的区域之一;滨海新区随着近几年的开发以及国家在产业经济、金融等方面给予的鼓励措施,其强劲动力和发展速度之快,让世人瞩目;郑东新区尽管知名度相对不高,但其设立有明显的“中部崛起”的概念,正逐渐成为中部的亮点;而此番在沈阳设立的“沈北新区”,更是国家振兴东北老工业基地的最新步骤,独特地位相当显著。
