肿瘤细胞对组织的侵袭的关键步骤是降解细胞外基质。基质金属蛋白酶通过对基底膜和细胞外基质的降解而促进癌细胞对周围组织的浸润,是降解关键酶。基质金属蛋白酶2是基质金属蛋白酶家族重要成员之一,金属蛋白酶抑制剂2对其有特异性的抑制作用,二者间的失衡在肿瘤浸润转移过程中起重要的作用。而头颈部肿瘤是引起患者死亡的常见肿瘤,研究二者与头颈部肿瘤浸润转移的关系,将对头颈部肿瘤的诊断、治疗及预后有重要意义。
