超星光盘图书是将图书资料全文录在光盘上。每张光盘存有约1.5万页资料,可以方便检索和打印复制。由该类光盘组成的桌面光盘图书馆有体积小,存储容量大,资料齐全,查询速度快等特点,是图书馆走向现代化的重要手段和主要形式。据悉,在美国和日本已有大量该类光盘图书馆出现。超星光盘图书馆目前已有档案、中医、计算机、电力、化工、金融等各类专业光盘图书馆,有几百种光盘可供选择使用。该图书馆的部分光盘已在北京图书馆电子阅览室投入使用。
