在基础设计中会遇到下面这样的做法:在有垫层的柱下基础,其垫层厚度为100mm,每边宽出基底各100mm,由于混凝土的刚性角是45°,这样设计即可以垫层的宽度作为基础的宽度来计算地基的承载力。由于基础的宽度相对缩小了,即可节省混凝土量。对于上述做法,我认为是欠妥的。这不仅与现行设计规范不符,同时对基础与垫层两种不同性质的构件,其目的和作用也混淆了。基础与垫层是两种性质完全不同的构件,不能把垫层视为基础的一部分,而只能说它是与基础有联系的部分,它们的目的和作用是不相同的。基础是承担上部结构传来的荷载的,而垫层是为方便基础施工,确保基础的施工质量而设置的。
