钢琴音板的主要作用是将琴弦的振动能量转换成声能传播出去,所以,这种转换越充分越好。钢琴音域宽,其振动频率从27.5Hz到4000Hz以上,这就要求这种能量转换在整个音域内大致相同,才能使整个音域内音量均衡。钢琴的实际音响效果取决于琴的类型、尺寸以及音板等因素。有经验的钢琴制作师都清楚,音板对音质的好坏起着至关重要的作用。实际上,一架音质优美和一架音质较差的钢琴的区别有时仅仅是音板材料和结构的差别造成的。经过长期的制作实践,音板大都固定采用云杉等材料,没有多大变化,变化的只是音板的结构,包括共振板厚度、肋木尺寸与位置以及音板框等紧固音板的方式。
