“物理”一词,现已为人所熟知。但是,对它的来源、涵义及词义的演变过程,尚不见经传。本文追本溯源讨论了从明代末年以来,“物理”一词在中、日两国物理学发展史上的演变过程,从而对中国这一时期物理学的发展概貌、源流和演变,勾划出一个轮廓,以便对此有个概括的了解。 古汉语中的“物理” “物理学”一词是作为一个科学名词从英语Physics翻译过来的。据说是本世纪初译自日文,实际上它是从中国古汉语中所借用的日文汉字。在中国,“物理”一词既不是新词,也不是外来词。该词始见于《淮南子·览冥训》:“耳目主察,不足以分物理”。据《隋书·经籍志》记载:“梁有杨子物理论十六
The term “physics” is now well known. However, its source, meaning and meaning of the evolution of the word, not yet known.
