On January 23, 1998, Wales formally announced the start-up of the NFFO Small Hydropower Project in the Elland Valley near Ryeard, developed by Hyder with a total capacity of 4,200kW and sufficient capacity to meet the electricity needs of 6,200 households. Water can be supplied by nearly 200 million tons of water in five connected reservoirs in Eland and the Clair Mountains. The Elland Valley is part of the Cumbria Range in Wales and is environmentally sensitive. 90% of the sites are proposed as Site of Special Scientific Interest, with five reservoirs and four Dam, all built between 1900 and 1950, all dams and related buildings have been classified as historical relics. 5 reservoirs are points
