初高中英语在教材内容、教学要求、考试形式等方面都有较大的变化。初中英语教材内容简单,课堂练习时间充裕,而高中英语教材的词汇量和信息量较大,课堂教学容量大大增加,教学目标转向重点培养学生的读写能力,因此到了高一,常常有不少学生单词记不了,也不会读,课堂上不知老师所云,参与不了课堂上各种听说读写活动;学习态度消极被动,很多学生产生了畏难情绪和抵触心理,甚至放弃。这主要原因是学生学习不得法,没有养成良好的学习习惯,
