Objective To analyze the effectiveness of combination of valsartan and nifedipine in the treatment of essential hypertension. Methods Eighty patients with essential hypertension were divided into observation group and control group by double-blind method, 40 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with valsartan and nifedipine controlled release tablets, while the control group was treated with nifedipine alone. The curative effect and systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR) and quality of life scores were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of observation group was 92.50%, which was higher than that of control group (75.00%), the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). The SBP in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (128.4 ± 2.1) mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 k Pa) and was (144.7 ± 3.6) mm Hg in the observation group and (81.7 ± 1.8) mm Hg in the observation group was lower than that in the control group 93.5 ± 3.0) mm Hg. The HR in the observation group was (71.6 ± 1.1) times / min lower than that in the control group (83.0 ± 2.0) times / min, with statistical significance (P <0.05). The quality of life score of the observation group (84.4 ± 5.1) was higher than that of the control group (72.3 ± 7.0), the difference was statistically significant (t = 8.8360, P <0.05). Conclusions In the treatment of essential hypertension, valsartan combined with nifedipine GITS is superior to nifedipine GITS alone. The method has been proved to be effective and worthy of reference in clinical practice.
