For decades, leaders of virtually every business in the world have identified “universal” as the cradle of creative ideas and tactics; GM is widely regarded as a training ground for business leaders based in the management college at Cuttonville, More “Fortune” magazine called “Harvard in the United States business.” Many of GM’s leading people are leading other Fortune 500 companies. Jack Welch, the now general chairman and chief executive of General Motors, has successfully reformed General Motors, a company more than 100 years old, making it one of the most respected, competitive and marketable companies in the world. It is another puzzling “mystery.”
