Objective To observe the changes of serum IL-I (IL-I) and IL-6 (Interleukin-6) in patients with type I osteoporosis and analyze their effects on bone resorption and bone formation. Methods Serum E2 (estradiol), IL-1 and IL-6 levels were measured in 136 patients with type I osteoporosis and BMD (bone mineral density) was measured. Results The measured value of E2 in osteoporosis group was significantly lower than that in control group (P <0.01), while the levels of IL-1 and IL-6 in osteoporosis group were significantly higher than those in control group (P <0.01). Conclusion The increase of IL-1 and IL-6 in patients with type I osteoporosis affects the dynamic balance of bone resorption and bone formation in vivo.
