我县是粮棉夹种地区,复种指数较高。但由于水稻品种混杂退化比较严重,特别是沿海有十多万亩盐碱地,影响水稻产量的提高。因此,广大贫下中农迫切需要培育出一个早熟、高产、耐盐碱,适合三熟制栽培的后季稻品种。我们根据群众的要求,于1966年秋,进行了调查研究,确定从“农垦58”中挑选了1000多个叶色深绿、茎秆坚轫、根系发达,具有早熟、高产、耐盐碱性状的优良单株,进行系统选育。经过室内复选不同类型变异的单穗,进行穗行圃比较和品系比较
