1958年是我国社会主义建设大跃进的一年,是大办钢铁,大办农业的一年。这一年刚过春节不久,大概在3月份,上海市在文化广场召开了上海青年支援农业生产建设的万人动员大会,当时任团中央书记的胡耀邦同志在会上做了动员报告,吹响了上海青年支援农业生产建设的号角。
