OBJECTIVE: To analyze some of the risk factors influencing newborn hearing screening through hearing screening of newborn. Methods: A total of 864 newborns admitted to obstetrics and NICU in our hospital from January 2012 to January 2013 underwent acoustic screening with otoacoustic emission technique. Results: The normal full-term children group: the initial screening pass rate of 92.9%, the re-screening pass rate of 94.5%, the total pass rate of 99.6%. NICU group: the initial screening pass rate of 78.9%, re-screening pass rate of 82.6%, the total pass rate of 96.3%. The screening rate of premature birth, neonatal asphyxia and hyperbilirubinemia were 74.6%, 79.4% and 85.3%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of hearing screening in NICU group is lower than that in normal term infants. Premature delivery, neonatal asphyxia and hyperbilirubinemia may be some of the risk factors for hearing impairment.
