在世纪之交科学技术大发展的现阶段，中国地质科学也必将兴盛，因为它具备了社会需求、科学问题和社会支撑基础３ 个科学发展的条件。由于中国地质学奠基者的远见卓识，中国地质学在本世纪２０ ～３０ 年代已建立了世界声誉。新中国建立后的５０ ～７０ 年代中国地质科学取得迅速的进展。自７０ 年代末至今的开放时期，更取得了全面的发展。随着地球系统科学的新概念为广大地质学者所接受，地质学各分支学科必将互相交叉融合，开展综合的和协调的研究。中国地质科学在新的世纪必将迎来蓬勃发展的全新阶段。
At the present stage of the great development of science and technology at the turn of the century, China’s geosciences will also prosper because of its three conditions for scientific development, including social needs, scientific issues and the foundations of social support. Due to the farsightedness of the founders of Chinese geology, Chinese geology has established its world reputation in the 1920s and 1930s. After the founding of New China, the geology of China made rapid progress during the 1950s and 1970s. Since the late 1970s till the present, China has achieved even greater progress in its development. With the new concept of earth system science accepted by the majority of geologists, all branches of geology are bound to be integrated with each other and conduct comprehensive and coordinated research. China’s geosciences will usher in a new phase of vigorous development in the new century.
