手玉子舞是东北民间舞蹈之一。据考证流传我地区已有超过百年的历史,最初出自于旧社会江湖上“跑海人”(要饭的)之人,这些生活在社会最底层的穷苦人,为了求生存,双手持两片玉板,采用简单的说唱形式,逢年过节,遇到红、白喜事的在大户人家门前,舞动手中的玉板,见景生情,边说边唱,以求得一点施舍,来维持生活。后来,在我们东北地区有许多唱“双调”(二人转)的江湖艺人,采用了这一说唱形式,并与其东北民间秧歌身段、造型动作等揉为一体,使之成为一种新兴的、具有浓厚乡土气息和生活情趣的东北民间舞蹈——手玉子舞。
