This paper presents a microstrip radial line circuit element, which is a semicircular or “half moon” shaped structure with a reflection coefficient of unity amplitude and phase slowly changing with frequency. The theoretical value of the reflection coefficient is in good agreement with the experimental x-band microstrip line (ε_ = 2.35, h = 250 μm). This article also discusses the problem of using a half-moon microstrip element in a broadband bias or tuning circuit design.
