白先勇的短篇小说集《台北人》开篇之作《永远的尹雪艳》被欧阳予称为“是最‘冷’的一篇”。尹雪艳所说的“人无千日好,花无百日红”仿佛是对书中描写的众生之相的一种开脱,有了这个借口,那些人便心安理得起来,他们中意于去尹雪艳那里寻找逝去的欢乐,到那个世外桃源中去躲避今昔的衰败,发泄对现实的不满。然而尹雪艳却冷眼旁观那些活在“过去”的人们,看着他们家破人亡,看着他们麻木地搓着麻将,看着他们沉溺于温柔乡里不能自拔。
