在橡胶工艺加工过程中,一般都需要加入一些能增加橡胶柔性的低分子物质。这些低分子物质通称为软化剂和增塑剂,不仅能增加胶料的塑性、流动性和粘着性,更便于进行压型和成型等加工,而且有助于配合剂在混炼中的分散,降低混炼温度;同时还能提高硫化胶的伸长率、回弹性和耐低温性能等。软化和增塑最终都导致胶料增加柔软性,这一点看是同义语,但两者在使用范围方面都有所差别。一般地说,软化剂大多是非极性化合物,多半是用于非极性橡胶中,如图所示:
