洒金东瀛珊瑚系山茱萸科常绿灌木,生长强壮,株丛圆整饱满。小枝绿色,光滑无毛。单叶对生,革质,椭圆状卵圆形至长椭圆形,先端急尖或渐尖,叶缘疏生粗齿,叶上遍布黄色斑点,上下两面有光泽。本种极耐阴,长期陈设室内,长势依然健壮,是观叶植物中的佼佼者。洒金东瀛珊瑚繁殖容易,扦插成活率较高,平均可达90％以上,但它唯一的致命弱点是根系发育极差。有关资料介绍说,该种“根系生长慢,插后7～8个月根才出长2～3厘米。”笔者96年4月沙插了20根插穗,两个半月后虽然全部成活,但是根系短少,平均才8
