提出的单线铁路调度监督系统具有定位、通信、地图匹配及显示和必要的辅助功能。采用GPS、行车监控仪和查询应答器相结合的列车定位系统 ,实现对单线铁路列车的定位。在平原地区 ,且不需分辨列车经由的站场线路时 ,仅采用GPS即可。在隧道等GPS信号盲区 ,可采用行车监控仪。在车站则可利用现有的电气集中轨道电路精确定位。定位信息的传输建议采用GSM R和TETRA系统。GIS电子地图则可根据铁路的特点开发 ,并采用一些简化算法进行匹配
