在心血管疾病中,甚至在所有慢性非传染性疾病中,动脉高血压占据着特殊位置,在本质上影响到人类期望寿命,引起持久和暂时的劳动力丧失,给个人、家庭及社会带来了经济损失,因此,在经济学领域研究高血压病的发展趋势,如何更为合理、有效地利用卫生保健资源,与高血压病作斗争,评价与其斗争中的各种规划或某些措施的经济效益。但是,这方面的工作在苏联开展得很少,而美国此方面的研究却很齐全,1975年统计,美国因高血压病导致劳动能力丧失及死亡所致经济损失达123亿美元。
