“吟咏情性”是南朝诗学的核心观念,但这一命题是从汉代诗学中移用过来的。在汉代诗学中,“吟咏情性”的含义是:诗歌是抒情的,而所抒之情须是合乎礼义的,须以礼节之。到了南朝诗学那里,“吟咏情性”这一命题被作了改造。改造是在两个方面进行的:在情的问题上,在基本含义未变的情况下,抽去了礼的制约作用,因而扩大了情的范围;在性的问题上,则渝换了概念,抛弃了汉人对性的伦理学解释,注入了才的因素。这样,在南朝诗学中,该命题表达的含义就是:诗歌既要抒发个人生活中产生的真实的思想感情,又要表现诗人独特的才情。南朝诗学之所以要对该命题加以改造,主要是因为它自身处于两股对立力量交互作用而形成的张力之中。一方面它有着向唯美方向发展的要求,这决定了它必须要在旧命题中注入新内容;另一方面,它又与传统儒家诗学有着联系,是儒家诗学片面发展的结果,这决定了它必须要到传统思想中去为自己的合法性寻找理论依据,这就是它为什么终究只是沿用一个旧命题的原因。
“Chant sentiment” is the core concept of Southern Dynasties poetics, but this proposition is diverted from the Han Dynasty poetics. In the Han Dynasty poetics, “chant affectionality” means that: poetry is lyric, and the expression of the feelings must be in line with righteousness, to be etiquette. In the Southern Dynasties, the proposition of “chant affectionality” was transformed. The transformation is carried out in two aspects: on the question of love, the restriction of the gift is removed in the situation of unchanged basic meaning, thus expanding the sphere of love; on the issue of sexuality, the concept is changed , Abandoned the Chinese ethical interpretation of sex, into the talent factor. In this way, in the poetics of the Southern Dynasties, the meaning of the proposition is that: the poetry should not only express the true thoughts and emotions generated in personal life, but also show the unique qualities of the poets. The reason why the Southern Dynasties poetics needed to reform this proposition was mainly because of its own tension formed by the interaction of two opposing forces. On the one hand, it has the requirement of developing toward the aesthetic direction, which determines that it must inject new content into the old proposition. On the other hand, it has the connection with the traditional Confucian poetics and is the result of the unilateral development of Confucianism. It must go to the traditional thinking to find a theoretical basis for its own legitimacy, which is why it eventually follows an old proposition.
