书籍装帧在我国有悠久的历史和光辉的传统。远在秦汉,作为书的雏形的竹简帛书出现,随之产生了装帧之萌芽。在漫长的数千年的历史进程中,历经祖先的劳动和智慧,创造出卷轴装、经折装、蝴蝶装、包背装、线装等等装帧形式。至近代“五四”新文化运动和“西学”的兴起,装帧艺术被推向新的艺术境界。在经历十年动乱之后,我国装帧艺术又出现了新的繁荣景象。现仅就工作实践中的粗浅体会,对书籍装帧的从属性、广告性、艺术性略作如下初探。
