众所周知,我国是世界上最早出现彩陶的国家之一。青海不仅是出土彩陶最多的地区之一,并且以造型多样、构图精美、纹饰繁多而著称,被誉为“彩陶王国”。青海地区的彩陶文化遗存分布较广,在东起民和、乐都,西至兴海,北人大通河流域,南达隆务河谷的广大区域内均有分布;其中,地处河湟谷地腹部的乐都柳湾最为密集,共出土彩陶17000余件,是中国乃至世界上罕见的彩陶
