平顶山矿务局七矿由于矿井地质条件复杂,水大、瓦斯大、顶板压力大,给质量管理带来很大困难,为了迅速扭转这种被动局面,经矿领导研究决定,在全矿范围内推广应用全面质量管理。经近两年的实际应用,取得了显著成效。1989年建成了“质量标准化特级矿井”晋升为“计量二级单位”、“全国煤炭工业环保先进单位”,职工生活福利达到部级标准。1990年节约储备资金149.27万元,煤炭产品质量的提高使销售收入净增391. 38万元,全面质量管理卓有成效地开展,使1990年七矿的方针目标顺利实现;实现了生产原煤120万吨的奋斗目标,比计划超过12万吨;工效由1989年的1.22吨/工,提高到1990年的1.38吨/工。采煤机械化程度由1989年的33%提高到1990年的56%,建成了现代化矿井并晋升为煤炭行业二级企业。
