The rich Indian tradition contains a profound ecological thought, which provides a useful reference value for the ecological crisis currently facing the West. This paper focuses on the novel The Love of Medicine, a novel written by the contemporary American Indian writer Erdrich. By reading the frequently occurring natural phenomena and the relationship between the animal image and the characters, this article reveals the living conditions and nature of contemporary Indians after being marginalized The development is extremely uncoordinated and the ethics of the white society is lost. We hope to return to Indian tradition to resist the encroachment of the white culture and return the hearts of the people to the primitive state of “primitiveness” so as to once again establish a harmonious relationship with all things in the universe.
