近代福州,人文荟萃,名家辈出,出现了众多才女,薛绍徽堪称其中的佼佼者。薛绍徽(1866~1911年),晚清著名女翻译家、诗人,福建闽县(今福州市区)人,外交官陈寿彭之妻。薛绍徽5岁学写字,6岁学《四书》、《毛诗》等,8岁读《左传》,开始学作诗词和骈文,还兼学围棋、画画、洞箫、昆曲、刺绣等。欢乐的童年转瞬即逝,她9岁丧母,12岁失父,生活一落千丈,只好寄养在姨娘家。即使这样,薛绍徽仍坚持作诗不辍。
