The State Council announced the first batch of24 “historical and cultural cities” in1982, the name list of which only includes one city in the west bank of Taiwan Strait:Quanzhou. It was then jointly recommended by State Construction Commission, CulturalRelics Bureau and General Administration of Urban Construction. What is more, Quanzhouwas selected as “the biggest business and trade port of China in the Song and Yuan Dy-nasty”. In terms of historical and cultural value, there are numerous valuable cultural her-itages worth praising and researching. Probably this is bona fide the most ancient “historicaland cultural city” in the bank ofTaiwan Strait.
