Scud is a ground-to-ground single-level tactical ballistic missile developed by the former Soviet Union. It has two models, SS-1b and SS-1c. Type A first appeared on the Red Square in Moscow in 1957; Type B was an improved version of type A, developed in the late 1950s and equipped in the mid-60s. Its role is to combat enemy airports, missile launches, command centers, force concentration and transportation hubs and other targets. Since its inception, the missile has been exported in major quantities, mainly to the eastern European countries except Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, the Democratic Republic of Germany, Hungary and Romania, in addition to the former Soviet Union and Soviet forces in Eastern Europe.
