神舟5号的上天,不仅令惟一的乘客、中国第一个太空人杨利伟名闻天下,宇宙飞船上另外一批“特殊乘客”——太空种子也引起了广泛关注。据媒体报道,神舟5号此次携带了1公斤花卉、疏果、树苗种子到太空,其中一半是来自台湾的36种苗种。10月18日,神舟5号回收舱搭载物品开舱仪式在中国航天科技集团公司北京空间技术研制试验中心举行,杨利伟向相关部门代表转交了搭载物品。不过,关于太空育种和太空作物的安全性问题,国际生物科学界没有作出肯定和乐观的定论,相反,怀疑的声音越来越强烈。
